A Diss businessman and engineer has donated to the local high school a milling machine and lathe worth several thousand pounds.

Diss High School has sent Alastair Robertson, 86, a letter of thanks.

Mr Robertson is a former engineer at Rolls Royce and had a career in the oil industry before setting up his own firm, Robertsons Chemicals, which he has since sold. The machine was gathering dust and he wondered what to do with it.

“I don’t know how the school came to my mind, but it did, so I phoned them up,” said Mr Robertson.

“They were very pleased to get it.”

Design and technology teacher at Diss High School, Max Molenaar, said the machine would be very useful and said anyone with any workshop equipment going spare could contact the high school 01379 642424 to see if they are interested.
