East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) received a seasonal boost of £5,000 this week following a charity event involving 20 Diss businesses.
The cheque was presented to EACH by staff at Midwich, who came up with the idea of raffling off four speciality hampers in support of local children and young people with life-threatening conditions.
Local businesses did their bit by donating prizes which made up an electronics hamper worth £2,700, a food and drink hamper worth £250, a pamper hamper worth £360 and a mystery hamper worth £430.
The cheque was presented to Laura Shearing, Norfolk fundraiser for EACH, by Midwich director Alex Ward at the Vinces’s Road business yesterday.
She said: “Midwich have again proved their corporate commitment to contributing to the community in which it operates, with their recent donation raised through a rather inventive fundraising idea.
“Their efforts really are an inspiration and we cannot thank them enough for their continued dedication and enthusiasm in supporting EACH. The vital funds that Midwich continue to raise really will go a long way in supporting local life-threatened children and their families.”
Diss mayor Graham Minshull announced the winners of the raffle at Diss’ carol concert at the Corn Hall.
The winners were Sarah Wake of Thornham All Saints, Kate Martin of Roydon, Midwich’s Phil Bligh and James Perkins from Buckinghamshire.
Midwich director Alex Ward said he was thrilled to see how Diss businesses had come together for such a great cause.
He said: “Here at Midwich we have supported EACH for several years but, with the support of all these fantastic businesses, we have smashed all our past fund-raising records. Our figures show over £9,000 has been raised throughout 2012 and we wish to pass on our heartfelt thanks to the Diss community in making this achievable.
“It was fantastic to see not only the generous support with the prizes given by the local businesses, but also their efforts in promoting this activity and selling the tickets.”
Prize donations came from The Park Hotel, Midwich, Il Divo, Fayre View Restaurant, The Sweetie Shop and Claires Sugar Craft, CK Meats, Bull Auberge, Brown’s Butchers, Diss Fit Club, VAE Hair, Madgetts Cycles, Co-Op Chemists, Diss Cue Club, Park Flowers, Reflex Martial Arts, Crackers and Chaps, Auto Aid UK, John Grose, Diss Antiques and Candies Shoe Store.
