The Park Hotel was the venue for the AGM last week giving attendees the opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months of the Forum’s activities and to look forward to 2014.
The agenda included a review of the exciting and inspirational new website and review of events from the past year. New committee members were introduced, and new members proposed.
Attendees were given the chance to analyse the latest financial figures from the annual report and to discuss the nominated charity for the coming year. A cheque for £484 was presented to Diss First Responders, whose essential work for the local community we have supported throughout last year. The committee is now seeking members’ views on who might be the recipient for 2014, so please send nominations, with a few lines of supporting information, to chairman Judy Ward at email@example.com. The deadline for nominations is next Friday, March 14
Speakers were Stuart Tinkler from Saffron Housing Association, who spoke about Saffron’s involvement with apprenticeships in the region and their plans to continue with this vital investment in youth employment and training and Oliver Chapman from TW Gaze who brought the evening to a close with an update on the town team in which he told members how the team had been formed its bid for funds from the Mary Portas Pilot Project, created to boost regional town centres.
Although the bid itself hadn’t been successful, it had brought together like-minded people who had an aspirational vision for the town.
Diss, and its surrounding villages, has a great deal to offer people with a large range of independent shops, historic architecture and advantageous geography.
DBF was grateful to both Stuart and Oliver for coming to the AGM.
