Police are warning south Norfolk residents after a distraction theft in Diss last Friday.
A woman in her 70s, returned to her car at the Morrisons store in Victoria Road after shopping.
The victim was approached by a man who said the car had a flat tyre and offered to fix it. The front tyre of the driver’s side was completely flat, and the man went to the boot to get a spare, and made out he was changing it.
He kept the victim in conversation, and while she was distracted a second man took a handbag from the passengers seat. The man made excuses and quickly left the scene.
The victim’s bank card was later used to withdraw £300.
Police are warning people to be vigilant against the scam which is known to have also been used in Cambridge.
The suspect was described as having an Eastern European accent and anyone with information is urged to contact Norfolk Police on 101.
