County council does its bit for apprenticeship week
National Apprenticeship Week is being marked this week by Suffolk County Council carrying out school visits to encourage more young people to consider an apprenticeship.
In the last year, the number of 16 to 18 year-old apprentices in Suffolk has increased by 12 per cent, bucking the trend of a national decrease of 1.5 per cent.
This growth looks to continue into this year, but the council believes there is still a need to work with young people and employers to showcase the opportunities that apprenticeships present.
The council’s Apprenticeships in Suffolk team are visiting 14 schools until Friday to run workshops with Year 11 students on applying for an apprenticeship.
The team expects to see about 30 students at each school and will be accompanied by Apprenticeship Ambassadors from Suffolk County Council - a group of ‘live’ apprentices who can offer advice on an apprenticeship and how it has worked for them personally.
