The first Royal British Legion branch to be formed in south Norfolk is celebrating its 90th anniversary.

The Dickleburgh branch of the Legion formed on January 25, 1923, and in celebration of the milestone, members will be holding a host of events throughout the year.

The celebrations will start with a carvery dinner at The Park Hotel in Diss on its actual birthday, January 25, continuing with a concert at Diss Corn Hall in April, a fete on Dickleburgh playing field in May and a sponsored target bowls tournament in August.

Michael Logan, who has been chairman of the branch for the last 20 years, said: “We are holding a year of events to raise as much money for the legion as we can and to boost our branch.

“We have a good branch committee, good supportive members and regular meetings .”

The Dickleburgh branch, which has about 60 members, is celebrating its anniversary just one year after glasses were raised all over the country to celebrate 90 years of the Royal British Legion.

Anyone who would like to support the events or have a fete stall should call events secretary Jan Logan on 01379 751535, email logan308@btinternet.com or write to 19 Beech Way, Dickleburgh, IP21 4NZ.
