Calendar Girls raise thousands for cancer charities
Two cheques for £1,381 have been presented to Cancer Research UK and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research on behalf of the 19 plucky women from the Harleston Players who stripped off for a nude calender.
Photographs for the calendar were taken during rehearsals for their production of Calendar Girls in September, organised by Helen Farrar and Sara Curtis of the Harleston Players.
Cast and crew from the show and other members of the players bravely agreed to strip off, with props from various past productions protecting their modesty. The calendars were sold by shops in Harleston, with local businesses sponsoring the printing costs to ensure that maximum profits went to the two charities.
The cheques were presented to Morgan Pickard of Cancer Research UK and Fleur Guyton representing Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research at the Cherry Tree pub in Harleston.
Eighteen-year-old Fleur, who had leukaemia herself as a child, thanked the group for their amazing fundraising efforts and said without the research and treatment options made possible by this kind of support she wouldn’t be alive today.
