Business day aimed at promoting all the quality town has to offer
Eye, Suffolk. Shopowners and business owners of Eye with their I Love Eye campaign
A north Suffolk town’s business forum is looking to prove that you don’t have to visit big name websites or city centres to spoil your loved one this Valentine’s Day.
The collective wants to give traders in Eye a boost ahead of and on the annual holiday itself by promoting all that the town has to offer.
The campaign has been called I Love Eye, and is underway.
Bruce Salter, vice-chairman of Eye Business Forum, said: “At a recent meeting, we realised Eye has just about everything you need for Valentine’s Day.
“We have a couple of lovely florists, a handmade chocolate shop, a gift shop selling jewellery and a chemist with perfumes. If you want to treat yourself, there’s also a secondhand clothes boutique, a couple of hairdressing salons, and a beauty treatment centre.
“You can enjoy a romantic meal out at the town’s cosy pub or Chinese restaurant, or you can cook up your own using ingredients from our two butchers, our delicatessen and our fruit and vegetable shop.
He added: “For the practical man in your life, there’s a hardware store; for your home, an antiques emporium and a fabric shop. You could even buy a home together from one of our two estate agents, or get one designed by one of our architects.
“Eye also has a wealth of free parking, which helps make shopping a doddle. And while you’re in town, you could do your supermarket shopping, or pick up a newspaper.”
Shops taking part in the initiative will display an ‘I Love Eye’ poster in their windows.
The town’s mayor, Merlin Carr, added: “After the excitement of Christmas, February can seem a bit dull. So, we wanted to boost people’s spirits and show that there is lots in Eye to make people happy.”
