In recent years residents of Burston and Shimpling could rely on the Community Action Team to put on some good events throughout the year to provide entertainment, and encourage community spirit.

A series of very different events enlivened the Jubilee celebrations, younger members of the community have been given a free gliding experience, and just before Christmas there was a tremendous evening of fun when Charlie Haylock came to talk.

All of this may soon change, after serving on the committee for over a decade, many of the people responsible for the success of the team have retired from the committee. Len Hobson, who has been chairman since the team was established said: “I have been leading the team for over ten years, and I think it is time for me to move on. I wish the team every success in the future.”

The committee now consists of just Nigel Frankland and Lindsey Bilston, who are now looking for new faces to join them. They are hoping to run a fun event in March, which may have to be a bit minimalistic, and also a jazz evening in September, but if there are no volunteers to help, then that may be the last event organised by the team.

If you would like to support the team in any way please contact Nigel on 01379 644788 or 07831377769, or Lindsey on 01379 741278 or 07713944509.
