A stark warning from Suffolk Trading Standards and Suffolk Police has been issued after several reports of traders selling chainsaws door-to-door in north Suffolk.
Doorstep callers may claim that their items are genuine and safe, but officers are warning residents not to part with their money, as the products may not have had any safety checks performed on them, or come with instruction manuals or advice.
Councillor Colin Spence, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for public protection, said: “It is so important that we do all we can to empower people in Suffolk to identify the early warning signs, and to make them feel that they have the confidence to say ‘no’ to deceitful doorstep sellers.”
Officers are currently trying to track down the original source of some of the chainsaws being sold in the north Suffolk area, and are warning potential consumers to stick to trusted suppliers and known outlets.
Anybody who has any information on doorstep traders operating in their area can call Trading Standards, on 08454 040506, Suffolk Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
