It was a disappointing turnout at Brockdish church for a bellringing taster session, but those interested in taking up the art are still encouraged to contact their local branch.

Organised by the Southern Branch of the Norwich Diocesan Association of Ringers, it was intended for those who wanted to try out bellringing, and held on March 15.

But David Hillier, chairman of the branch, said: “Last year in Bunwell we had a very good response. This year we got two people who were interested.”

Those interested in taking up bellringing in the Diss Express area, can contact Mr Hillier, 01379 740158, or Mr Hodgkinson, 01379 740042.

n Betty Baines, of Diss, will be officially made MBE for services to bellringing.

Mrs Baines was named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List,

She will be at Buckingham Palace today for a special ceremony, with a member of the Royal Family making the presentation. Mrs Baines has dedicated her life to the art.
