In my View: Jade's death should be dignified
I am not sure I want to see someone dying in public.
Every day the national newspapers are littered with images of the former Big Brother contestant Jade Goody looking gaunt and desperate, as she reaches out to the public who have watched her so closely for the last seven years.
Miss Goody, who lost people's support after bullying and taunting Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, regained many of the nation's hearts when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer on the Indian version of the programme last year.
She has since made the decision to live out the last months of her life in the spotlight, with the tabloids giving daily updates on her condition and OK! magazine paying a reported 700,000 for the exclusive rights to coverage of her wedding to toyboy bad boy Jack Tweed.
The reality television star, who famously asked where "East Angular" was, is also continuing to film her own series for Living TV, with the aim of giving an "open and honest account of what it's like living with cancer in the public eye".
While I can understand a mother wanting to make money for the two children she is leaving behind, I find the whole situation distasteful and uncomfortable.
I had the privilege of meeting Miss Goody when she was up for driving charges at Basildon Magistrate's Court two years ago.
After only five minutes in her company, one thing became very clear – she loved showing off and courted the attention of the gathered press.
She was child-like and, after being found guilty of the offences, stroppy.
Suddenly, the people she had been batting her eyelashes at across the courtroom, were the enemy and the victims of a torrent of abuse.
This is just Miss Goody's last chance to perform to the nation, and what an unhappy performance it is.
