A Harleston man has been banned from keeping dogs for 15 years after footage showed him punching and slapping his two Labradors.

Darren Mansi, 29, of School Lane, Harleston, pleaded guilty to animal welfare offences at Lowestoft Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, relating to a male golden Labrador cross called Marmaduke, aged two, and female black Labrador cross called Nula, aged one. He admitted to hitting the dogs on the chest and back. He was fined £6,363 and ordered to carry out 180 hours community service.

The RSPCA was called after a member of the public filmed the incident on their mobile phone in October last year.

The footage shows Mansi hitting Marmaduke hard four times across the face - causing him to yelp in pain. He then slaps Nula five or six times across the face – causing her to run to her bed and cower – then calling her back to punch her in the chest and slap her on her back.
