It is often the staple of the local press to report on the odd cat stuck up a tree — but this morning the fire service was alerted to a barn owl which had got tangled in Pulham St Mary.

A fire officer attended a property in Norwich Road to offer advice, at about 7.42am, to find the feathered friend upside down and caught up in a tree.

The owl finally managed to escape by itself.
