Festival offered fine ale and all that jazz!
The 11th Stradbroke Real Ale and Jazz Festival, held over three days last weekend, reached around the world with listeners from Denmark, Germany, the USA and even Cairns in Australia joining in the fun by tuning into the music via Radio Stradbroke's live broadcasts on the web.
The festival, hosted by the Queen’s Head pub in a marquee, offered visitors 21 beers to taste and kicked off on Friday evening with the children of Stradbroke Primary School playing their brass instruments, followed by the Sole Bay Jazz Band.
On Saturday, the music began at noon with the Dixie Jazz Bandits with Mary Lou Lambert, followed by Downhome Jazz Band with vocalist Laura Blake, and then Bob Kerr and his Whoopee Band took to the stage.
Sunday’s programme started with a New Orleans Church Service at All Saints Church, followed by Rosie Val and the Cambridge Jazz Company, and finishing with JJAGG, a band of 12 to 13-year-old young musicians.
The event was rounded off in the evening with a performance by The Anglia All Star Jazz.
Festival founder and music programme organiser Bob Kerr said: “It was good to have a couple of student bands on the programme and to encourage these young musicians and give them he opportunity to play in front of a live audience.”
