Enjoying a real taste of Diss
The townspeople of Diss and surrounding villages demonstrated their culinary credentials last weekend as the week-long Taste of Diss food festival got off to a flying start.
The festival, which continues until tomorrow has seen a variety of events and activities celebrating local foods and producers.
It was launched by Diss mayor Simon Olander, who set off a balloon release to mark the start of the festival on Saturday.
A special Diss Farmers' Market took place in the Market Place with comedy street theatre from the Fairly Fresh Fish Company and the Diss Food Inspectors.
There was also a fruit and vegetable-themed fancy dress competition for children.
Other events have included talks and tastings at various venues throughout the week.
More than 150 people attended the Waveney Sausage Competition at the Burston Crown on Wednesday.
Visitors got to judge their favourite banger from a selection of 24 different varieties from 11 local producers.
Butcher D A Browne and Son, of Diss, won the competition with their pork and apple sausage.
"The turnout was fantastic and people took the voting very seriously," said Geoffrey Dixon, one of the Taste of Diss organisers.
The festival continues this weekend with a cookery event in Diss Corn Hall tomorrow, 9am-4pm, which will include local food suppliers, stalls, professional and amateur cookery competitions and a children's cookery activity.
There will also be a free Live and Gigging in the Park musical event, featuring local bands and local food stalls, 11am to 6pm.
