Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP Dr Dan Poulter has been elected chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health.

The group provides a parliamentary platform to identify and debate global health issues and concerns to raise its profile within Governments in the UK and elsewhere.

I look forward to using my experience and knowledge as a practicing NHS doctor to build upon this influential Group’s achievements and working to improve healthcare for the benefit of patients in the UK and elsewhere.

Formed by Lord Nigel Crisp, the group offers recommendations and advice to Parliament on key policies impacting health here and abroad.

Dr Poulter, a former health minister, said: “I am delighted to have been elected Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health which undertakes such important work to raise awareness of physical and mental health challenges that we face here in the UK and overseas.

“It is no longer possible to clearly separate health challenges in the UK from health issues abroad and it is important to consider policies from across many sectors of Government which may also affect health policy, and that can lead to improving care for patients.

“I look forward to using my experience and knowledge as a practicing NHS doctor to build upon this influential Group’s achievements and working to improve healthcare for the benefit of patients in the UK and elsewhere.”
