Diss PC sentenced for insurance scam

A south Norfolk police constable has been ordered to work unpaid after admitting his part in an insurance scam.

Stephen Price, 43, who was based in Diss, colluded with his former partner, Berit Hedegaard, 37, to make a fraudulent 2,000 claim for lost underwater camera equipment.

The pair said the loss happened during a dive at Whitlingham Country Park, near Norwich, in April last year, Norwich Crown Court heard.

Hedegaard, who worked at Norfolk police's contact and dispatch centre, admitted six offences of fraud at Norwich Magistrates' Court in May.

She was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and told to pay 1,000 compensation to AA Insurance Services Ltd.

Price pleaded guilty to the fraud at the crown court.

He was ordered to complete 180 hours' unpaid work and pay 1,000 costs.

After the case, a Norfolk police spokesman said Price's job was under "formal consideration".

He said Hedegaard left the force following her conviction.
