Tributes flooded in this week following the death of a loved and respected Diss shopkeeper.
Vijay Patel, who for 25 years owned and ran the Premier Patel Stores shop in Skelton Road, with his wife Mina, died on Sunday, aged 54.
His daughter Nisha, 21, said: “He was so friendly to everyone and anyone, especially the children.
“When they came into the shop he could always make them laugh.”
She said the family has been comforted and is very thankful for the huge number of messages and gestures of tribute from people who knew Mr Patel.
“It has been overwhelming,” said Nisha.
“The shop was closed on Monday and Tuesday, but there were flowers at the shop every time we went there. The house is so full of flowers that we have run out of vases, jugs and sweetie jars to put them in.”
The family has set up a memorial page for people who knew Mr Patel to pay tribute, which has already seen a flood of messages.
Nisha said: “It is so nice to see how well respected and loved he was in the community.” She described her father as a “fantastic role model” and said that she was a real “daddy’s girl”.
Mr and Mrs Patel came to Diss from London, initially with the intention of only staying a few years, but settled after finding a welcoming and friendly community.
On Monday the family will be at the shop all day with something to thank the customers for all their support. All are welcome to attend to remember Mr Patel.
Tributes can be paid on Mr Patel’s memorial website. Visit http://vijay.patel.muchloved.com/
