The Diss Business Forum is hopeful an exhibition planned to coincide with this year’s Carnival will enable local companies to give themselves ‘more of a profile’ beyond their current members.
For the first time, the forum will set up an exhibition marquee during the Carnival Fun Day at the Diss Town Football Club grounds on Sunday, June 12, in an effort to give members of the public and businesses an extended opportunity to interact face-to-face.
Kerry Kirby, chair of Diss Business Forum and director at Splice Creative, says although similar events have taken place at venues like the Park Hotel in years past, this time they will have the chance for much greater potential exposure to new people.
She told the Diss Express: “We would like to appeal to a different section of Diss by moving outside of the normal business environment.
“As the carnival is such a well-supported part of the Diss calendar, we thought it would be a great idea to have a marquee.
“We think this would open up the forum to potential new members.
“It’s about profiling our existing membership to new people.”
The forum also said it would like to see as many businesses and organisations as possible participating throughout the Carnival weekend as a whole.
This news comes after the announcement that 25 forum members have now joined the Members Incentive Scheme, an initiative via which local businesses can offer discounts and privileges to anyone with a membership card.
Ms Kirby said they were ‘really happy’ with the progress of the scheme so far, as it fast approached the one year anniversary of its launch in May 2015.
“We have had a really good response and it’s something we really want to grow and develop,” she said.
She added the forum was working ‘very closely’ with South Norfolk Council’s new markettowns co-ordinator, Lisa Vincent, to encourage businesses within the Diss area to connect with each other ‘as part of a collective’.
