A Diss-based theatre company is seeking a local cast for a professionally directed community production of Romeo and Juliet.

The Keeper’s Daughter company will tour with the show in July to venues including Bungay Fisher Theatre, the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds’ St Edmundsbury Cathedral, culminating with a final performance at a secret location in Diss as part of DissFest.

They say they are taking a “bold step” in taking a community production off the stage and instead using buildings in a “more imaginative” way.

Director Mark Finbow said: “The show is hugely imaginative and we’re seeking a community company who are equally as creative. You’ll need to be.

“It’s a perfect challenge for any young actor considering a career in the arts as well as those slightly older hands who are interested in learning non-traditional approaches to Shakespeare.

“It’s a hugely exciting project and not the sort of opportunity that happens often locally so we hope people will get involved.”

Actors aged 16 and older are invited to apply for audition or become part of the backstage crew.

Auditions take place on Tuesday, April 12, at St Mary’s Church Hall, Diss, from 7pm.
