The decision on a planning proposal for 17 new houses and village hall in Scole has been deferred by South Norfolk Council.
The plans, submitted by Mr B Tunmore, is for land west of Norwich Road in the village, and would also see the construction parking, an area for open space recreation and wildlife areas.
In August 2014, a consultation process was carried out by the applicants. Of the 563 properties in the parish, 487 were contacted. In response 92.5 per cent backed the plans, while 24 were against.
A wide array of groups — including St Andrew’s Church, Scole and District Gardeners Club, Diss First Responders, Scole Old Boys Club, and Scole WI — all support the proposed development.
Planning officers have recommended refusal.
Their reasons include it is outside the settlement boundary, harmful to the open countryside, does not represent a sustainable development, and insufficient justification for there being no affordable housing.
