Debenham residents petition over village green plan

An application to have an area of grassland in Debenham declared as a village green has been opposed by 60 residents.

The village's parish council has made the application, which would see the land in Lock Close dedicated for public use and unavailable for development, and was supported with evidence forms from more than 100 villagers.

However, an objection containing a petition has been delivered to Suffolk County Council.

A spokesman was unable to name the campaign's organiser, but said the petition argued against the application as the land had not been used as a green before.

Parish council vice-chairman Frankie Winrow-Griffin said: "The application is to preserve and protect the land, like the other greens in the village."
