Cracks put up price of Corn Hall revamp
The £3.5 million project to regenerate the Diss Corn Hall could be derailed if funds cannot be found to mend cracks discovered in the listed building.
The damage was found two weeks ago when a buildings expert from Norfolk County Council identified the cracks which have spread through the brickwork of the rear wall.
An investigation into the seriousness and cost of the damage is yet to be considered by Diss Town Council.
Glyn Walden, from the Corn Hall working group, said: "The hall currently misses out on about 38,000 a year because it does not comply with the Disability Discrimination Act."
Refurbishment is planned to remedy this as part of the regeneration project and it is hoped the cost of mending the cracks may be absorbed.
But the cost of the project may raise significantly and "closure may come into the frame," he said.
