Couple's joy at £76k Lotto win

A DISS couple have celebrated their £76,756 Lotto win with champagne by the Mere.

George and Joyce Beales, who won the lottery after a snap decision to play the Wednesday Lotto draw on October 8, bought their ticket from Morrisons in Diss.

Mr Beales, who works at Skinner’s Pet Foods, said they still cannot believe their luck but added he and his wife intend to “keep our heads down to earth.”

Mrs Beales said she had to go back to the shop to get the numbers checked again.

She said: “It’s probably the only time in my life that I can genuinely say I was happy to have been in a supermarket twice in two days.”

The couple are planning on putting a significant share into a savings account.

“I did get advised to put the money in a biscuit tin and bury it in the garden instead of a bank,” joked Mrs Beales.

“But I don’t think that’s really the place for it.”

The money will go towards treating their two sons and themselves with a day out in London, as well as updating their house with a new kitchen suite, which Mrs Beales has been wanting for 20 years.

Mrs Beals added: “Now I can pick up the things I want instead of what is on the cheapest rack.”

“It just gives us more choice.”
