County call for duo is reward for fine display
Two junior athletes from Diss have been called up to represent Norfolk in the sportshall regional finals at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.
Katie Pursehouse and Joel Clarke were both rewarded for their great performances in the sportshall league and championships this season.
Pursehouse, representing Norfolk for the sixth year running, beat off competeition from Hertfordshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire to claim a place in the UK final for a fourth time.
The youngster won gold in the standing long jump, leaping 2.30m, finished fifth in the two-lap sprint, and claimed 10th in the shot put event.
Clarke made his step up to the under-13s, last year’s regional winner competing strongly in the speedbounce, finishing 5th, and coming second in the 4x1 relay.
He is only in his second season in athletics and has already had two county call ups, picking up four trophies at Diss AC’s awards evening
Both teenagers will travel to Norwich will high hopes of maintaining their good form, knowing that they are more than capable of returning as winners.
