A large congregation attended the memorial service at Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church for Janet Mary Ribchester of Castle Hill, Eye, who died on July 4 at the age of 64.
Born in Manchester, Janet was one of a family of eight children and became a catering officer at Manchester airport where she met her husband, Colin.
The couple, who have one daughter, Suzanne, and two sons, Glyne and Paul, worked together at the newsagent’s, now McColl’s, in Church Street before retiring in July 1994.
Fr. Chris Davidson officiated and Colin Bartlett was organist. Mr Ribchester paid tribute to the many members of staff, regular customers, and neighbours who had joined relatives at the service and had given “wonderful support beyond belief” during his wife’s battle against lung cancer.
She had achieved her wish to live long enough to celebrate her only grandson Dominic’s 21st birthday last December, he said.
Cremation at the West Suffolk Crematorium, Risby, preceded the church service. Donations in memory of Janet are being given to the Woolverstone Ward at Ipswich Hospital.
