A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a spate of crimes at St Michael’s Church in Framlingham.
It follows a number of incidents at the church, in Church Street since early February.
They include the theft of a handbag from a pew on Friday, February 7, and a burglary on Wednesday, February 26 where a wooden chest was forced open and a wooden cabinet with papers and books on was set alight.
There were further incidents between last Thursday and Friday where excrement was smeared on the doorway to the church and items were moved around inside the building.
The man, also from Framlingham, was arrested on suspicion of burglary on Saturday evening and was taken into custody where he was interviewed in connection with all these incidents.
He has now been bailed to return to police on Monday, April 7 to allow further enquiries to be carried out.
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Jeff Burt at the Saxmundham & Framlingham Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101.
