The owner of a new interiors and paints store in Harleston says he hopes the shop’s “good old-fashioned service” of bespoke products and knowledge will help make the business a success.

Ray Munn Paints and Interiors opened in Market Place eight weeks ago at the site of the former HSBC bank, offering a range of products as well as a project management service.

Owner Ben Sturges, who has more than two decades experience in the field of building decoration, stated this new venture was “taking the leap forward” from his previous shop, located in Alburgh.

“This was the natural next step for the business. It was about investing in it and taking on more brands,” he said.

“A lot of people come in with various problems and we try to solve them. In 20 years, I have come across quite a few, so once we get people in here, we can push them in the right direction.”

Mr Sturges claimed the initial response to the business had been very positive, in part because it had filled a prominent vacant building, but also due to a “genuine interest” within the community.

“We are trying to tap into that right niche, which can be difficult. A lot of it is from word of mouth,” he said.

“Generally, for niche services, there is a small market who will always use it, so we have got those people on our radar. People have said it’s so nice to finally have something easier and more local than having to go into the cities.”
