A JCB scheme has helped a 25-year-old man from Thornham Magna to set up his own business.

Through the ‘Be your own boss’ scheme, Freddy Vaudrey was able to purchase a JCB 3CX digger and set up Laser Civil Engineering & Plant Hire.

The scheme allowed him to purchase his machine with a deposit of just five per cent of its value.

“I saw an advert for the scheme and I thought it would be good to go and see what it was all about,” said Mr Vaudrey.

“I had no intention of starting a company before the event but after I just thought maybe I should have a go. I am young and ambitious and that is what the scheme is about.”

The company offers a wide range of services from ground works to civil engineering and Mr Vaudrey attributes this to the machine the scheme allowed him to buy.

“I have an extremely versatile machine. It allows me to do all kinds of different jobs, which is good for business.”

The ambitious individual hopes to see his business grow.

“I would love to expand in the future. At the moment I have to hire other machines to help with the work but I would love to be able to buy my own.”
