Redgrave-based rock band Walkway have been called in as a last-minute support act for the start of Status Quo’s tour which begins this weekend — which their manager has described as a “very big step” in their musical careers.

Comprising of James Ready, Chris Ready, Alex Rosedale and Joe Evans, they have supported the likes of Black Stone Cherry and The Darkness in the past, and have been on the bill for three previous Status Quo performances since the summer of 2014.

Band manager Michael Ready received a call this week from Quo’s tour manager saying Walkway had been asked to fill-in as support for the start of their UK tour, kicking off this weekend, with performances at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday and Manchester Palace Theatre on Sunday.

He said it was “phenomenal” news, and added that the opportunity has created links with promotion company Live Nation.

“This is very good because as you can imagine, Status Quo have played with lots and lots of bands over the years, so for them to come to us is pretty good,” he said.

“They really felt they would like Walkway there as they have worked with us before. Their fans like what we do and they like what we do, which is really nice.

“Quo have put us forward because of Walkway’s professionalism and performances. That is great to hear.

“We now have contacts within Live Nation, which is the world’s biggest promotion company, which works with the likes The Eagles, AC/DC, and Bon Jovi, the biggest there are.

“It is great to get in with these people — these are email addresses and phone numbers that money can’t buy.”
