Bonnet boost for charity
When Channel 4 chat show host Paul O'Grady broadcast an appeal to help save impoverished African babies, one champion knitter reached straight for her needles.
Dorothy Richards, of Stradbroke, has knitted 100 woollen bonnets in less than a month to be sent to South Africa, via the show.
According to charity Save The Children, half of all South African newborn babies suffer from hypothermia in their first week of life, making them more likely to catch pneumonia.
Mrs Richards said: “I have been knitting for years.
“People will tell you, it isn’t often I’m not seen without a pair of knitting needles in my lap.
“I thought I would put my skills to a good cause.”
Mr O’Grady launched the appeal after visiting South Africa with the charity in March.
