Bacon baps help pull in fair crowds
More than £2,400 was raised at a Christmas fair at St Mary's Church, Diss on Saturday.
Both the church and its adjoining hall were filled with stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac to homemade cakes.
“It was very successful – people of all ages came to the fair,” said Janet Bryant, who helped organise the event.
“We were selling bacon baps and I think the smell of them enticed people into the church.”
The fair, which is held every year on the last Saturday of November, raised 2,446 which will go towards church funds.
“It costs 1,500 a week to keep the church open,” said Mrs Bryant.
“The money raised will go towards that – the general upkeep and repair of the church.”
The event also aimed to recruit new bell ringers for the church, following the retirement of sexton and tower captain Geoffrey and Kathleen Tebble.
People of all ages had a go to see if they could handle the ropes.
