A ‘vital hub’ for two south Norfolk villages has received a boost in its bid to replace its ‘outdated’ heating — but there is still much to do to make the dream a reality, according to the chair of the committee.

The Aslacton and Great Moulton Coronation Hall, in Carr Lane, Great Moulton, has served the two villages for more than 60 years. A fundraising campaign has been underway to install a new central heating system to replace the “out-dated, inefficient and costly” ceiling heaters.

From fundraising events across the year, £3,500 has so far been raised towards the £12,000 total.

And the effort received a cash boost this week, with a £3,000 grant from the Shelroy Charitable Trust Fund via the Norfolk Community Foundation.

Zoe Taylor, Chair of the Coronation Hall committee, said: “The village hall serves as a vital hub in our villages and we desperately want to make the hall as welcoming as possible to all the groups who use the building.

“We are home to two vulnerable groups of residents, from a weekly toddler group to our bowls club at the other age of the age spectrum, and its vital we are able to keep these groups warm in the winter.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve received a grant this week, but we’ve still got much more to raise as a completely new central system is a priority but we’re keen to install the most suitable system from the hall which will not only last for many years but also lower running costs — therefore we are looking into all options from traditional central heating to newer renewable technologies.”

n The next fundraising event is a Christmas Fayre at the hall on Saturday, from 2pm
