A Post Office outreach service is set to open at the Black Horse Inn, Thorndon, after a public consultation which will end in March.
The village post office closed in September last year when the sub-postmistress retired and no replacement could be found.

It is hoped the new service will be available in May, should the consultation be successful, said parish council chairman Katrina Maddams.

“I believe that for a village to be sustainable there needs to be a pub, a post office, a shop and a church,” she said.

She said the new post office services would be welcome.

A post office spokesman said: “Following the temporary closure of Thorndon Post Office, it has been our intention to continue to provide a Post Office service to our customers in the local community and we have been exploring options that would enable us to find a solution.”

The new services will be open between 9.30am and 11am, Monday to Friday.
