A HARLESTON schoolboy has been making waves building a career in broadcasting.
Laurence Scott, who goes to Archbishop Sancroft High, has spent the last year presenting his own show on Norwich’s community radio station Future FM.

Although at 14 he is the station’s youngest DJ, Laurence is perfectly at home during his two-hour slot, Laurence Scott’s Evening Delight, and hopes to remain in the industry once he leaves school.

“Some weeks it can be very difficult to find content and you can be panicking the night before,” he said. “But there is always something funny to talk about that’s happened in school or after school.

“It used to be quite difficult recovering if I made a mistake but I can just get it out of my mind now and carry on.”

Laurence’s show is a mixture of quirky news, album reviews and new music.

He has a section called The Big Challenge, where listeners telephone in to ask him questions and he sets them one in return.

“I come up with all the content,” said Laurence.

“They let me do anything I want within reason.”

With GCSEs to study for, the young DJ has not got a lot of time to think about future career moves but his dream job would be working for BBC 6Music or Absolute Radio.

Laurence’s show is on Future Radio – 96.9FM in the Norwich area or online at www.futureradio.co.uk – Tuesdays, 6-8pm.
