A Diss resident returned home to find his hedge had been the victim of an unwanted gardener – in the middle of the night.
Robert Sandys, who lives in Mount Street, said his beech hedge had caused complaints, because it overhung the pavement, but he had made an appointment for it to be cut back by professionals.

However, more than 30 feet of the hedge was cut back in the early hours of Sunday with a mechanical device and the cuttings left strewn all over the pavement.

Mr Sandys next-door neighbour Jacob Ecclestone said: “I hope the culprits are found and punished for the damage they did. If they had a complaint to make about the hedge, then they should have raised the matter. A beautiful hedge has been needlessly butchered.”

A spokesman for Norfolk Police confirmed the hedge had been cut for an unknown reason and asked anyone with information to contact Pc Jim Squires at Diss Police Station, 0845 456 4567.
