The presentation of a Union Flag and the flag of the USA was due to coincide with a visit by air force veterans, which was cancelled.
The ceremony marked the anniversary of a USAAF mission to
Kassel in Germany from Tibenham Airfield on September 27, 1944.
Of the 35 aircraft to carry out the raid, only four returned.
Norfolk Gliding Club vice-chairman Tony Griffiths, who helped organised the presentation said: "Tibenham was home of the 445th Bomb Group and that night it suffered one third of its total losses during the whole of the Second World War."
