A special flag presentation took place at Tibenham Airfield on Saturday to remember the biggest single loss for one airbase in the history of the United States Air Force.
The presentation of a Union Flag and the flag of the USA was due to coincide with a visit by air force veterans, which was cancelled.

The ceremony marked the anniversary of a USAAF mission to Kassel in Germany from Tibenham Airfield on September 27, 1944.

Of the 35 aircraft to carry out the raid, only four returned.

Norfolk Gliding Club vice-chairman Tony Griffiths, who helped organised the presentation said: "Tibenham was home of the 445th Bomb Group and that night it suffered one third of its total losses during the whole of the Second World War."
