It's Carnival time again and Diss is gearing up for a bumper day of fun and laughter. Videos of some of the day's highlights will be appearing
here.
Last night's rain failed to spoil the fun at Proms in the Park during which the Carnival King and Queen, Joe Trippett-Jones and Kimberley Harper-Collins, were crowned.
Today offers a packed programme of entertainment and a host of displays and events taking place throughout the day to ensure something of interest for everyone.
The Monterey Line Dance Club will be giving a demonstration in the Mere's Mouth at noon and then proceedings will get off to a lively start in traditional fashion with the Hoxon Hundred morris men performing in the Market Place at 12.30pm, prior to the Carnival Procession taking place between 1-2pm.
The parade of floats and walking groups along Roydon Road, St Nicholas Street, Mere Street, Park Road and Denmark Street is on the theme of Decades.
There will also be a children's fancy dress parade with a theme of fruit and vegetables.
Presiding over it all will be the Carnival King and Queen who will be chauffeured in an Aston Martin DB7.
Then it will be over to the Diss Town Football Club ground in Brewers Green Lane where the Carnival arenas host a full programme of activities, including static displays of tractors, vintage cars, military vehicles, emergency services, scooters and Harley Davidsons, a traction engine and sports cars.
There will be gymnastic, dance and martial arts displays, tug 'o' war, piano smashing, Sumo wrestling, African drumming, fancy dress and children's races and lots of stalls and refreshment providers, as well as rides and attractions targeted at younger children.
Admission to the fun day is £3 per adult.
The programme also features a competition to win a flight in a Second World War bi-plane and tickets to the Old Buckenham Air Show. Deadline for entries is by noon today by post to the Diss Express, but entries will also be accepted on Sunday at the Carnival fun day.
Diss Museum is also running a competition in the programme to win £50. Entrants take part in a treasure hunt in and around the museum and Market Place. The closing date for entries has been extended to Monday, June 29.
