The rumours are true – Hollywood film star Johnny Depp has been propping up the bar at a village restaurant.
Depp, who most recently played Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, has made several trips to The Ivy House in Stradbroke for a pint of Adnams.

"He came in on his own on a very busy Friday night, so no-one had much time to speak to him" said Suzanne Stenseth, who runs the restaurant with her husband Egil.

"It wasn't until the next day that people were coming in saying 'I stood next to Johnny Depp'."

Depp, whose weird and wonderful roles have included Edward Scissorhands and Willy Wonka in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, was dressed in jeans, a tailored tweed jacket and a hat on one of his visits.

"He was very normal looking," said Mrs Stenseth.

"But I suppose, like most people on a Friday night, he just wanted to go out for a quick drink."

The 18th Century establishment has welcomed a number of celebrities since Mr and Mrs Stenseth took over last year.

Actress Amanda Donahoe, former Blue Peter presenter Peter Purves and Anglia TV sports reporter Stuart Jarrold are among the famous faces who have visited the village pub and restaurant.

"We respect their privacy and leave them alone," said Mrs Stenseth.

"If you treat them as normal people they are fine – they like it."

Commenting on a rumour that Depp was turned away from the Fox and Goose restaurant in Fressingfield recently because there were no free tables, Mrs Stenseth said: "We were very busy as well that night.

"If he had walked in here on the same night he would have got the same response – you can't turn people off their table because Johnny Depp has walked in.

"Everyone's money is the same."

Depp is rumoured to be looking for a house in the area – the most talked about being Jasper Conran's former weekend retreat, Flemings Hall in Bedingfield.

The 13th Century moated house boasts an indoor heated pool, a one acre kitchen garden and a couple of resident ghosts.

Other lavish properties on the market include Wingfield Priory, which is up for sale at £1.5 million, and an extensive house near Thelnetham with its own vineyard – perhaps something to please Depp's French partner Vanessa Paradis.
