Action, not words, are needed at a dangerous road junction on the A140, according to one nearby resident.
Signs stating Accident Site Under Investigation have appeared at the
Brome junction with the A140 as part of a Suffolk Roadsafe initiative by
Suffolk County Council.
They have been put up at places where serious accidents have happened, while investigations to decide what measures are best placed in those areas continue.
But according to Eye resident Brett Fraser in a
letter to the Diss Express this week, there is no need for the signs.
"This is the crux of my argument," he said. "What is there to investigate? Suffolk Roadsafe should pack away its pointless signs and direct all its efforts towards forcing the relevant authorities to build the roundabout the Brome junction has always needed."
The
Suffolk Roadsafe Board, which involves the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, Suffolk Constabulary, the Highways Agency and the East of England Ambulance Service, has placed the signs in 15 areas across Suffolk where at least one serious accident has occurred.
The signs at Brome have been prompted by one serious accident and three slight accidents.
Alan Cooper, of
Eye Town Council, said that the signs must be a good thing: "There has always been a problem there – the best thing to do would be to put in a roundabout. But it's a good idea to have the signs. Anything that will help is a good thing."
Suffolk County Councillor Guy McGregor said: "This is a question of trying to work out solutions. Despite a speed camera and speed limit in that area, more work needs to be done."
The signs will remain until work is undertaken to improve the site, or no further action is deemed necessary. It is hoped their presence will prevent further accidents until then.
