The recent unseasonably wet weather has prompted memories of previous rainy spells in the area.
Leigh Trevail, of Scole, wrote with details of the major floods of September 1968, which are coming up to their 40th anniversary.
"I was only young at the time but we had exceptionally high rainfall, followed by high tides that pushed all the wate
r back," he recalled.
"The Waveney Valley was completely underwater and I have not seen it like it since."
Those were the last major floods to hit the area but there have been other incidents since, ranging from last year's Mere Street flash flood, which saw the street near Woolworths under a foot of water within minutes of the heavens opening, to storms causing havoc in Shelfanger in July 2001.
In that incident, a cloudburst saw 28 properties flooded with the cost of repairs running into thousands of pounds. The Diss Express reported that it was the worst flood to hit the village for 30 years.
Several residents had to move out of their homes and some had three inches of water in rooms, with irreplaceable personal papers and artwork ruined.
