Diss Museum has had an intriguing enquiry about a local family of Punch and Judy men who were active in south Norfolk more than a century ago.
Sandra Parker, who lives near Darwin, Australia, wrote to the museum to say: "I have been searching for any information regarding my maternal family in Norfolk, the Chilvers.

"As far as I can ascertain, there were three generations of Chilvers Punch and Judy men, somewhere around the mid 1800s to 1900s.

"This branch of the Chilvers family were in and around Dickleburgh and Diss."

Mrs Parke said the family were the descendants of John Chilvers (1798-1835) and Sarah Pearl (Purl) and may possibly be associated with their son, Samuel Chilvers (1830-1904).

Museum manager Basil Abbott said: "I have never heard of these Punch and Judy men but I am told that Chilvers is still a local name in Dickleburgh, so somebody from there might be able to help."
