Unemployment may have been rising across the country, but a £15 million redevelopment of a racetrack will buck the trend.
Hundreds of new jobs will be created across several industries at Snetterton and it will once again become a key player in the motorsport industry.

The project will bring a hotel, offices, engineering firms, motorsport retail shops and a race school, alongside a major rework and upgrade of the track.

Snetterton circuit manager Jamie Hopper said: "Norfolk has a heritage for racing and needs to come into the mainstream.

"Snetterton was standing still and we should be moving forward."

The circuit was taken over by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision company in 2004.

"The previous company had the Formula 1 license at Silverstone and, therefore, they had a different focus on Snetterton," said Mr Hopper.

"The other circuits they owned were often forgotten about and, as motor racing is a minority sport the facilities here weren't great."

Plans were approved last month by Breckland Council for the development and work is expected to get under way within the next two to three years.

"Our plans will create 500-600 jobs in all different skill sets but they won't just be restricted to engineering though," said Mr Hopper.

"The hotel will bring in chefs, bar staff and reception workers and office units will bring in admin and other office jobs.

"Jobs across the board will benefit the area, and we won't be competing against existing businesses.
