The hunt is on again for a Carnival Queen to lead the parade and other festivities during the 2013 Diss Carnival.

The successful candidate will step into the shoes of last year’s Carnival Queen Lucy Davies, who was accompanied by Carnival King Oliver Pilsbury-Gaunt.

Lucy, from Eye, was 17 when she was chosen for the role and wore a gown from Every Cloud in Diss for her duties. A former Hartismere High School pupil, she worked for Camstar Herbs in Eye and was a weekend waitress at Il Divo in Diss. Oliver Pilsbury-Gaunt, 18, was combining college studies with running the Park Pavilion Kiosk in Diss. Both were keen to represent the town and meet people.

To be eligible, you must live in Diss or the surrounding villages, be over 16 and able to attend dress fittings, the Carnival weekend on June 15 and 16, and some other engagements during the year.

Carnival co-ordinator Doreen Collins said: “Representing the town as Carnival Queen provides an opportunity to become involved in one of the biggest community events of the year. It also helps with communication skills and acts as a boost to self confidence.”

The carnival committee also wants to hear from young men who would like to help in an ambassadorial role. For information, call on 01379 642018.
