Jane Callender - Wortwell textile artist

Wortwell-based textile artist Jane Callender, whose work is recognised internationally, will be on home turf this month when she holds an illustrated talk in Harleston.

The indigo dyeing and shibori expert (right), who is due to jet to Australia on an eight-week lecture and teaching tour followed by a few days teaching in Italy, will first fit in the Arts and Eats event.

At Chameleon House, Harleston, on February 12, the event is organised by Waveney and Blyth Arts and Jane will be talking about her long-term passion for indigo and the reputation it has of being magical.

Indigo is synonymous with the textile techniques of shibori and, using samples of her own work and pieces from Africa, China and Japan, she will be explaining some of the techniques.

Waveney and Blyth Arts launched in 2010 to promote and support the arts in the area and to bring people together. It holds lunchtime events every three months in one of the eight towns along the rivers Waveney and Blyth, from Diss to Great Yarmouth, Halesworth and Southwold.

Tickets for the talk cost £10 each from nmstainton@gmail.com, from Wilderness Stores or by calling 01379 855235. For more information see www.waveneyandblytharts.com or www.callishibori.co.uk
