Concert-goers in a Blur as star names play city

Alternative music fans will be busy over the coming week as Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, chart-toppers Doves and tips-for-the-top Cage The Elephant are all due to play Norwich.

Coxon, who will be playing a series of dates with Blur for the first time since he left in 2003, will be at Norwich Arts Centre on Sunday.

The guitarist will be airing tracks from his new solo album The Spinning Top, which features contributions from legendary folk bassist Danny Thompson and cult singer Robyn Hitchcock.

"The album is mainly an acoustic journey although there is, of course, some explosive electric guitar action," said Coxon.

"I wanted to show how exciting acoustic instruments can be."

Sunday's concert forms part of a dozen-date tour before he swaps smaller venues for the open spaces of Glastonbury and Hyde Park.

Tickets for Graham Coxon's Arts Centre gig cost 14 from the box office, 01603 660352.

On Wednesday, acclaimed trio Doves return to the UEA after a four-year absence playing songs from their latest album Kingdom Of Rust.

Acclaimed as much for their stunning live shows as their records, many of the dates on this tour sold out immediately.

However, there are a handful left, 18, for Norwich so call the box office, 01603 508050.

At the UEA next Friday, are young rock terrorists Cage The Elephant, who have brought into the live raw power of The Stooges for the 21st Century.

The Kentucky combo have been causing a stir on the music scene since they released their debut album last year and these dates will be the first chance to hear tracks from its easily anticipated follow up.

Tickets for Cage The Elephant cost 10 in advance from the UEA box office.
