I recently went to Tesco in Diss. After putting my shopping in the car I drove off, leaving my handbag in my trolley.

Vital lessons to be learned

I hopE one of the first things the Diss Youth Council will be taught is how harmful and wasteful litter is and asked how they would cope with the problem (Young people get an introduction to politics, Diss Express, June 12).

Also I hope they will realise the cost of 'things'.

When we were children, we had to rely on our own imaginations and initiative.

Therefore, perhaps the youth council could be encouraged to set their own 'things' up and not rely on others to do it for them?

They made it a success

We would like to thank everyone who helped make Saturday's Horham Bygones Country Rally such a success – the helpers and stewards, the exhibitors and stallholders, the charities and caterers, and, of course, everyone who came along for a great day out.

We hope that, when the figures are finally tallied, Horham Community Council and the other charities involved will be in for a record boost to their funds.

Guides mark 100 years

In 1909, Lord Robert Baden Powell announced that he would be in Crystal Palace Park on Saturday, September 4, to show the public how the Scout Movement had progressed since the first Scout camp two years earlier.

About 11,000 Scouts joined him and among them were a group of girls, sisters of some of the Scouts, who challenged the idea that Scouting was only for boys.

They declared themselves to be Girl Scouts. Baden-Powell agreed to their request and in 1910 Guiding began.

Exactly 100 years later…Diss District Rainbows, Brownies & Guides are holding a Centenary Launch Party on Saturday, September 5, 2009, and invite anyone who has been a member at any time to join them at a camp fire to celebrate this momentous occasion.
