I hope young Josh Barrett has been nominated for an award for his outstanding actions regarding communicating to his deaf father the danger he was in (Our Hero, Diss Express, June 20).
Considering one in seven of us in the UK are deaf or hard of hearing, I am surprised there are not more opportunities to learn sign language to enable us to help family, friends, neighbours, colleagues at work or customers communicate their needs.

Perhaps that is why The British Deaf Association, (BDA), have organised a national campaign called Learn to Sign Week to take place from October 6-12. Anyone/organisation can take part, just register here.

I do hope people with British Sign Language, (BSL), qualifications will give up some of their time during that week to share their knowledge of signs to ensure more people can communicate with deaf people.
