Published Date: 26 September 2008
For more than 30 years local golfers have used the large playing field in Pulham St Mary to practise their sport, without undue incident.
Apart from Sunday football, the field is mainly deserted allowing a safe area for the often lone golfer.

It now appears that non-sporting members of the parish council are endeavouring to ban this activity due to fears that a ball will accidentally land on the minor road next to the field.

It would be advisable for all local sportsmen to make their feelings known to the council before we are denied the right to use the amenity that us older parishioners worked hard to provide.

Who knows, the next concern may be a football landing on the road!

Rest at last for Reggie

It is testament to his strength of character – and to the benefits of regular exercise – that he waited until his 80s to make his final dash for the line.

In common with everyone who ever went to Diss Athletics Club or was taught by him at Diss Grammar School, I'd like to say congratulations on your retirement, Reg, you deserve it!

Mind you, as many who had Reg for PE at DGS will probably concur, the very mention of the man's name will conjure up images of dank, cold November mornings and the dreaded words, "it's long Roydon cross-country this morning, lads…"
